Nurses Group Activity Report 2024

EBMT Nurses Group (NG) is committed to patient care through education, research and international network collaboration.

The EBMT NG is one of the leading groups in the field of haematology and HCT nursing. It is dedicated to improving the care of patients receiving HSCT and promoting excellence in and through evidence-based practice. The NG’s mission is to enhance and value the nursing role all over the world, supporting and sharing knowledge through communication, advocacy, research, training and education.

Major achievements

As 2024 marked 50 years of EBMT and 40 years of the EBMT Nurses Group, the 50th Annual Meeting of the EBMT in Glasgow provided a great opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved by the Nurses Group and for our community since 1984.  It was incredible to see past Presidents Carole Charley and Ton van Boxtel take the floor and walk us through the history of the Nurses Group and our achievements.

Our commitment to inclusivity and addressing barriers to education was highlighted by the provision of even more grants across our meetings including those to support early career transplant and cell therapy nurses. The EBMT NG – Next generation community for early career nurses has grown from strength to strength through the flourishing LinkedIn group and the first Next Generation educational session at the Annual Meeting in Glasgow.

We launched the translated versions of the second edition EBMT Textbook for Nurses. This project highlights our commitment to inclusivity and is the culmination of a fantastic collaboration between the EBMT Nurses Group and the national groups of France, Italy, Spain and Germany. Like the original textbook, the translated versions are free to download from the EBMT website.

Blood Matters – an EBMT podcast for Nurses received new branding and new co-host Hilda Mekelenkamp, EBMT NG President-Elect and has continued to educate and engage with fantastic topics and expert guests.

The 16th Educational Meeting of the EBMT Nurses Group in Naples, Italy, 26-27 September 2024, with the GITMO Nurses Group of Italy was a great success, with Italian-English translation and brilliantly interactive Meet-the-Expert networking dinner.

Our global connections have gained strength, with continued collaboration with EBMT-China and a second educational meeting and a record number of abstracts were submitted ahead of the Annual Meeting 2025 at 196, many from new regions across the world demonstrating our increasing global relationships and reach.
