Since 1990, the EBMT has published an annual survey documenting activity in haematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) centres across Europe. This project was led by Helen Baldomero (Switzerland) and Jakob R. Passweg (Switzerland). Over time, the EBMT Activity Survey has become a key instrument for monitoring trends and developments in HCT in Europe and neighbouring countries, using standardised data collection stratified by indication, donor type, and stem cell source.
The scope of the survey has expanded considerably and now includes extended disease classifications, detailed donor and stem cell source information, paediatric activity, immunosuppressive treatments for marrow failure, and, more recently, detailed cellular and gene therapies. The current Activity Survey team includes representatives from various areas listed below, together with the Registry unit.
All centres performing HCT, cellular therapy, or gene therapy are invited to participate in the survey, regardless of EBMT membership status.
For the 2023 survey cycle, a new online data reporting system was introduced, allowing centres to submit data electronically.
The Activity Survey serves as a valuable resource for transplant teams, national organisations, healthcare authorities, industry stakeholders, and patients.
When & How to submit survey data
The 2025 survey data requests will be sent to the centres shortly and the data will be collected during the first half of the 2026. The 2025 survey has not been opened yet.
The data will be captured via on-line survey (link will be sent to each centre individually by EBMT Activity Survey Team), whereby each transplanting team will be able to report their entire annual activity by indication, donor type and stem cell source.

Never Participated in the Activity Survey?
If your centre is not currently participating in the Activity Survey but wishes to take part, please complete this contact form. The Activity Survey team will then reach out to you and provide the online Activity Survey for the 2025 reporting year once it opens.

How can I see the results?
Data from the most recent survey year are presented at the EBMT Annual Meeting and are available to participating teams and sponsors. If you are an EBMT Member and if you want to access the most recent data, please contact the Activity Survey team at activitysurvey@ebmt.org.
External persons or organisations may also apply for access to the survey data against payment of a fee. Please provide detailed information about the data required and its intended use to the Activity Survey team, who will assess the feasibility of the request before passing it on to the EBMT Partnering team for approval and costing.
Please note that some of these data may not have been published and should be treated as confidential. It is for internal use only and may not be used for publication without obtaining prior consent.
Activity Survey data are published annually as a peer-reviewed publication in Bone Marrow Transplantation. Individual analyses may be requested by EBMT Partners of Excellence and participating teams, subject to justification of their intended use. Requests should be sent to partnering@ebmt.org.
