Middle-Income Countries Pediatric Advanced Care Training (EMPACT) 2021-2022

A pilot educational program by the Outreach Subcommittee, Paediatric Diseases Working Party - EBMT, supported by DKMS and Cure2Children and consisting of:

A two-year haematopoietic cell transplantation training course for nurses from Middle-Income Countries (MICS).

Applicants are required to have some experience in paediatric transplantation and/or acute care.

Aim: To ensure the acquisition of Advanced Practice Providers (APP) hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) core competencies as defined by FACT/JACIE standards 7th edition.

Structure and compensation: This hands-on two-year training course will be carried out in selected institutions in MICs with a proven track record in paediatric HCT and committed to compliance with international standards as defined by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and the Joint Accreditation Committee of ISCT-EBMT (JACIE). APP trainees will receive a competitive salary as well as accommodation and travel support. Duties as APP trainees will be additional to those as senior nurses.

A six-month hematopoietic cell transplantation fellowship for paediatricians from Middle-Income Countries (MICS).

Applicants are required to have some haematology-oncology and/or immunology background.

Aim: To provide intensive hands-on exposure to paediatric HCT in a MIC setting. The case mix will primarily consist of hemoglobinopathies and other non-malignant conditions.

Structure and compensation: The training course will be carried out in selected institutions in MICs with a proven track record in paediatric hematopoietic cell transplantation and committed to compliance with international standards as defined by the Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) and the Joint Accreditation Committee of ISCT-EBMT (JACIE). Fellows will receive a competitive salary as well as accommodation and travel support.
