JACIE will be changing the terminology in all the public and internal communications from ‘accreditation’ to ‘certification’ in the coming months. This is to demonstrate compliance with the EU Regulation (EC) No. 765/2008.
According to Article 4(1) of Regulation (EC) No. 765/2008, each Member State of the European Union must designate a single national accreditation body. This means that there can only be one accreditation authority per Member State authorised to perform accreditations. Accreditations may only be performed by this competent national accreditation authority.
The participation of healthcare institutions in audits and certification processes by health professionals societies such as JACIE is widespread. It is a popular way for healthcare organisations to demonstrate their commitment to high quality and their willingness to provide their patients with the highest possible standard of care in their field. Participation in such certification process is always voluntary for the healthcare facilities. They undergo such a process in addition to other certification or accreditation processes that may be mandatory or a recognised method of demonstrating compliance with quality and medical requirements mandated by law.
JACIE serves as a complementary tool for healthcare institutions to demonstrate the alignment of their services and daily operations with JACIE's globally recognised medical quality standards. JACIE remains committed to operating within the framework of national and international regulations.
